The general sentiment among players towards Daemon X Machina is that while the mech combat and customization provide a fast-paced and generally enjoyable experience, the story and character development are significant letdowns, often described as incoherent and clichéd. The game offers strong gameplay mechanics with appealing graphics and a solid soundtrack, but suffers from repetitive missions and a lack of meaningful multiplayer options. The game is seen as a decent option for those looking to scratch a mecha action itch, particularly if acquired at a discount, but it does not fully meet expectations when compared to other titles in the genre.
