The general sentiment from players indicates a deep admiration for the storytelling and world-building within Star Wars: The Old Republic, which keeps players engaged despite its aging mechanics and visuals. While there are elements of criticism towards the monetization model and technical performance, many find value in the content offered in the free-to-play model. The game caters well to Star Wars enthusiasts and fans of narrative-driven gaming, but those focused on competitive endgame content or modern graphic and combat expectations might find it less appealing.

Positive Points

A large number of players praised the game for its captivating storytelling and immersive Star Wars atmosphere, emphasizing the narrative depth across the different class storylines.

The game's world-building, voice acting, and overall lore were also highlighted as among its strongest features.

The free-to-play model of the game received positive comments due to the substantial amount of content it offers without any cost.

Players appreciated the game's flexibility in allowing solo or cooperative play, with the option to engage in multiplayer content like flashpoints and operations.

Negative Points

Criticism was directed towards the outdated graphics and mechanics, particularly when compared to more recent MMORPGs.

Some players experienced technical issues with launching the game, login problems, and poor customer support.

The monetization model — including the subscription, premium currency options, and essential features locked behind paywalls — was seen as restrictive and predatory by some players.

The game's combat was often described as dull or repetitive, with some players emphasizing the heavy reliance on button mashing and lack of meaningful variation in encounters.

Mixed Points

While the game is celebrated for its storyline, opinions were divided over its endgame content, with some enjoying the vast amount of activities, while others found it lacking compared to the engaging early-game narrative.

Feedback on the community experience was mixed, with some players finding it welcoming and helpful, while others encountered toxicity or unsupportive elements in group contents.

Common Themes

A recurring theme is the game's strong narrative and its likeness to traditional RPGs despite being an MMO, attracting not just Star Wars fans but also those who appreciate story-driven gaming.

Many players reflect on nostalgia, with longtime players returning to the game after years, appreciating that it holds up well over time.

There is a notable balance between solo and group play, allowing players to choose their preferred playstyle without a forced dependence on multiplayer interactions.

Expressions of dissatisfaction with technical and customer support issues are quite common, especially concerning account access and game stability.
