The general sentiment towards Europa Universalis IV is largely positive, as players admire its depth and replayability. However, the game is criticized for its steep learning curve and expensive DLC model, leading some to feel it can be prohibitively costly to access the full experience. Technical issues, particularly on Mac, and the game's complexity can be challenging, yet they also contribute to its richness. Overall, the game is considered a core title for grand strategy enthusiasts but may prove daunting for newcomers.
