The general sentiment from reviewers is that Lumines Arise is a masterpiece in terms of visuals and audio, providing an immersive synesthetic experience especially in VR mode. However, several players note issues with accessibility and gameplay flow interruptions, which can detract from the experience, particularly during lengthy sessions. There are varied opinions on the soundtrack and gameplay elements, with some praising its nostalgic yet innovative approach, while others feel it overly repeats thematic elements from Tetris Effect.

Positive Points

The game features stunning visuals and engaging musical effects, creating a beautiful synesthetic experience.

VR compatibility is highly praised, offering an impeccable and breathtaking experience.

The game is considered a masterclass in sound and presentation, continuing the tradition of excellent puzzlers that Lumines is known for.

Many players appreciate the seamless integration of music and gameplay, with particular praise for the game's soundtrack.

Performance on platforms like the Steam Deck is generally well-optimized, contributing to a smooth gaming experience.

Negative Points

Players noted that the game lacks sufficient accessibility features, particularly for those with colorblindness or visual impairments, making it difficult to differentiate blocks.

Fatigue can set in during long sessions due to the game's marathon-like Journey mode and prolonged play sessions.

Abrupt level transitions and speed changes can break the player's flow and engagement.

VR mode, while praised, caused issues for some users when running on lower-end hardware.

Mixed Points

The game's soundtrack received mixed feedback, with some tracks being considered immersive and others described as cringey.

There is a sense of repetitive thematic elements similar to Tetris Effect, which some players found stale.

The burst mechanic and other gameplay elements like stage transitions have divided opinion, with some players appreciating the break and others feeling it interrupts game flow.

Common Themes

The artistic and audiovisual presentation of the game is a major highlight for many players.

There is a desire for more diverse music tracks similar to the older Lumines games, with a mix of nostalgia and desire for innovation.

Players frequently mention their long-time appreciation of the Lumines series and express delight in its continuation and evolution.

The game's ability to invoke a zen-like state and immersive experience is a standout feature.
