The general sentiment among players is that Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel shows tremendous potential with its graphics and satisfying combat system, yet it currently suffers from balancing issues and lack of content which lead to a repetitive experience. While many appreciate the immersion and aesthetic, players are eagerly awaiting more updates and content to enhance the rather shallow gameplay experience in its current state.

Positive Points

Players appreciate the game's solid graphics, smooth animations, and appealing Norse-themed art style, which are deemed superior to many other similar games.

The sound design, including the soundtrack and sound effects, has been praised for effectively enhancing the immersive qualities of the game.

Many reviewers mention the game's addictive nature and compelling progression system, which makes players eager to unlock new skills and abilities.

Despite being in Early Access, the game is noted for its polished state, promising future updates, and the developer's engagement in improving the game based on feedback.

Negative Points

Many players are frustrated with the game's difficulty progression and balancing, particularly noting that some characters and skills are significantly weaker than others.

A number of reviewers criticized the game for its lack of content, variety, and replayability at this stage of development, which makes it feel repetitive over time.

Players expressed dissatisfaction with the meta-progression and monetization, including the need to grind for coins to unlock skills and the day-one DLC.

Some users experienced issues with game mechanics, such as unresponsive controls, unclear skill effects, and hitbox problems making the gameplay frustrating.

Mixed Points

Objective and event systems are seen as both engaging and repetitive, with players appreciating the additional challenge but lamenting the lack of variety.

The game's Norse mythology theme is liked by many players, but some feel it is underutilized or cliched, especially in terms of the storytelling elements.

Common Themes

The game draws frequent comparisons to other survivor-like games such as Vampire Survivors and Hades, particularly in terms of style and gameplay mechanics.

Many players discuss the game's high potential, given its foundation and current quality, and express hope that it will develop into a standout title in the genre.

A common sentiment is the desire for more content, including characters, maps, skills, and significant updates to maintain interest and enhance longevity.

The balance between difficulty and player empowerment is a recurring theme, with players often feeling the game leans too heavily into challenges without sufficient rewards.
