performance problems

The general sentiment of Anno 117: Pax Romana's reviews is with appreciation for its atmospheric graphics and thematic depth but criticism focused on its incompleteness and technical issues. Players feel the game retains core Anno series qualities and introduces interesting new mechanics such as land combat, but the execution is seen as lacking. Many hope future updates and DLCs will address the missing content and improve functionality, but the reliance on additional purchases to enhance the experience is a concern.

Positive Points

The game has a beautiful Roman setting with gorgeous graphics that many players enjoy.

Several players appreciate the introduction of new mechanics, such as land combat and the deity feature.

The game retains the core elements of the Anno series which are familiar and enjoyable to long-time fans.

Players appreciate the improvements added to workforce management and diagonal building, which provide a fresh feel.

Negative Points

The game is frequently described as incomplete, with an abruptly ending campaign that feels more like a tutorial.

Players report numerous technical issues, including crashes, bugs, multiplayer desyncs, and problematic Ubisoft Connect integration.

Many players criticize the use of AI-generated art and lack of originality, comparing it unfavorably to previous Anno titles.

Several reviews mention disappointment in the game’s performance issues, especially on high-end systems.

Mixed Points

Some players find the new mechanics promising but feel that they still require additional content and refinement.

While some praise the potential of future DLCs to enhance the game, others are frustrated they will likely have to pay for content they feel should have been included at launch.

The learning curve and complexity of managing multiple islands and resources are engaging to some, but daunting and unenjoyable to others.

Common Themes

Players often compare Anno 117 to Anno 1800, noting it feels like a reskin with less depth.

Many reviews express dissatisfaction with Ubisoft’s practices, especially how content and features were handled post-launch, including the first DLC not being part of the season pass.

While the city-building aspects are generally well-received, combat mechanics receive mixed reviews and are often regarded as underdeveloped or poorly executed.
