The general sentiment towards Death Stranding 2 is highly positive among players who appreciated the first game. Many reviews highlight the breathtaking graphics, deep and emotional storytelling, and refined gameplay mechanics. However, the game is not without criticism, as some players found the story convoluted and experienced performance issues. Others were mixed on the increased combat focus and the role of the new companion character. Overall, for fans of the original or Kojima's work, the sequel offers a rich, cinematic experience with improvements across the board.

Positive Points

Players overwhelmingly praised the graphics and art direction, calling them breathtaking and among the best they've seen in gaming.

The game reportedly features a deeply emotional and complex story that resonates with players, particularly those who are fans of Kojima's unique narrative style.

The soundtrack received high accolades for enhancing the emotional impact and atmosphere of the game, contributing significantly to the overall experience.

The sequel is described as refining and improving upon the mechanics of the first game, with smoother gameplay, more engaging combat, and a host of quality-of-life improvements.

Negative Points

Some players found the story to be convoluted or overly complex, leading to confusion and a less engaging experience for those not already invested in the first game.

The game's pacing was criticized, with certain segments dragging on or feeling repetitive, particularly if side missions were pursued extensively.

A few reviews mentioned performance issues, specifically crashes and frame drops, which detracted from the overall experience.

Mixed Points

The combat system, while improved, received mixed feedback; some appreciated the enhancements while others felt it detracted from the core experience that focused on traversal and delivery.

The presence of a new companion character, Dollman, was divisive, with some players finding the constant dialogue overbearing and others appreciating the added context.

Common Themes

The game is characterized by its artistic approach, with Kojima's signature style being a major draw for those looking for a unique gaming experience.

Players often mention a strong emotional connection with the game's themes of connection and isolation.

There's a recurring mention of the game's improved user interface and quality-of-life features making gameplay more accessible.
