The general sentiment towards Divinity: Original Sin - Enhanced Edition is positive due to its engaging turn-based combat and deep exploration mechanics, though it faces criticism over technical glitches and frustrating puzzles. Players appreciate the game's humor and charm, but the complexity of inventory management and the density of content pose challenges, especially for newcomers to the genre. Despite some issues, many players highlight the game's significant impact on the development of later Larian titles, particularly as a precursor to the advances seen in Baldur's Gate 3.

Positive Points

The game features a deeply engaging and strategic turn-based combat system that emphasizes elemental interactions and careful planning.

The sense of exploration and discovery in the game world is highly rewarding, with many secrets and quests that unfold organically.

The game's humor and quirky writing add charm and entertainment value, balancing the more serious narrative elements.

Character customization and build variety offer players significant freedom, allowing for diverse playstyles and experimentation with different skills and abilities.

Negative Points

Numerous technical glitches and bugs affect gameplay, including issues with item interactions, AI behaviors, and combat mechanics.

The game can feel overwhelming due to its dense content and lack of clear direction, leading to the necessity of consulting guides.

Endgame content and puzzles can be frustratingly difficult or obtuse, dampening the player's sense of progress and satisfaction.

Inventory management and crafting systems are cumbersome and can detract from the overall experience with their complexity and lack of intuitive design.

Mixed Points

The storytelling and characters receive mixed reviews, with some players finding them engaging, while others consider them too lengthy or less impactful compared to newer titles.

The game's pacing and difficulty spikes are seen as both challenging and potentially off-putting, depending on player preferences and experience.

Common Themes

There is a strong comparison between this game and its successor, Divinity: Original Sin 2, with many players noting improvements in the latter.

The game's influence on later Larian titles, especially Baldur's Gate 3, is frequently mentioned, indicating its foundational role in Larian's development path.

The balance between challenging gameplay and moments of frustration is a prevailing theme, as well as the game's need for some degree of metagame knowledge.
